Stella

2024

The first in a series of three works (Stella, Ethel and Dorothea) which explore the relationship between literature and poetry from the time of federation, with specific interest in the depiction of landscape from the point of view of the female authors.

There is something wild about Miles Stella Franklin.
Perhaps it is the struggle to survive
In a landscape so incomprehensible and savage
To the traditions of European farming methods.

Materials: Antique chair, Stringybark bark (collected from fallen timber on private property at Gariwerd/Grampians
