Teeny Weeny

2022

TeenyWeeny begins with an examination on what a zero carbon footprint might look like. How do we ensure that materials are not wasted, that the resources of the earth can truly sustain us, and that we leave virgin resources for our great great grandchildren.? Teeny weeny starts small, gathering local waste to reimage it into another life. It values both the past use and the next use, so that these precious resources can continue on their journey of use and reuse.

The love we owe to our great great grandchildren gives this work not just concern for the provision, but also the significance of the will to live. It proposes a future where love and care are central. It is a porthole to a view past the anxiety, anger and fear of the current era.

Time to go.

Wings fold and the stands are kidded back. Naturally Robin is first out of the yard, pedaling and swerving wildly in equal measure, his little legs pumping hard and the dirt flying. Lori is out after him, trying to head off the unplanned stack, her wings not quite clipped back, she glides on silent wheels in time with his scurry. Rosel is slower off the mark, preferring the protection of Wonga’s steady pace and the calm shade of the space which surrounds her. Baby wheels keep her stable, but she’s careful not to push the limits of balance and speed. Back in the yard Ptero is carefully folding his vast wings. As he stretches, he pokes Scoto who is always so far behind when it comes to the get-go. The rest of the bunch are out of sight before these last two can get underway, but they fly over the spanning ground and take up their positions in the milling rabble.

Where to next?

A difficult question when everywhere and nowhere is home. Cast adrift into a storm of global upheaval which challenges belonging and the connection to specific place. Places to anchor appear as oases of peace and beauty which glimmer and beckon. They offer hope and joy. But perhaps the road chosen is the less apparent, less attractive, less known. In these damaged and difficult places redemption is possible, for the way must be repaired to be accommodating. And these acts of repair allow us to remake both the journey and the destination.
